(Pearl Harbor, Hi) –  Every year on December 7th, people from all over the world unite to honor and remember the brave men and women who lost their lives during the Japanese attacks on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Their sacrifice inspires us and reminds us of the importance of coming together in adversity.

On December 7, 2023, at 7:55 am, we commemorated the 82nd anniversary of the attacks with the theme "Legacy of Hope.” We observed a moment of silence to honor the memory of our fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of peace. Through the collaborative efforts of various organizations and individuals, we came together to pay tribute to their bravery and inspire hope for a brighter future. A wreath was laid to symbolize our gratitude and commitment never to forget their sacrifice.

C/2d Lt. Noah Araki and C/Maj Jon Salvador proudly represented the Hawaii Wing by presenting remembrance wreaths, joining the ranks of active-duty military members from the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Space Force, and National Park Rangers. Their participation in this historic event reminded them of the importance of honoring those who have served our country. C/Maj Jon Salvador summed it best when he said, "It was an honorable moment to be a part of such a historic event."

Cadets and Senior Members of the Hawaii Wing Civil Air Patrol proudly joined the ladies of the Rosie the Riveters and Mr. Harry Chandler, who celebrated his 103rd birthday this year, to pay their respects at the USS Arizona Memorial. The experience was truly inspiring, and Mr. Chandler was impressed by the dedication and skill of the Civil Air Patrol Cadets, calling them amazing.

The ceremony was a beautiful display of respect for the military, honoring several traditions such as a flyover, Taps, and the United States Armed Forces Medley. Seeing such reverence for those who have served our country and sacrificed so much for our freedom is inspiring.
